Lantmännen’s acquisition of HKScan’s Swedish operations has been completed

Press releases, 2024

The transaction, which was communicated at the end of 2023, has now been approved by relevant authorities and completed. The acquisition, which includes the entire Swedish operation and the Scan, Pärsons and Bullen brands, strengthens Lantmännen’s business portfolio – and the long-term conditions for Swedish farming and Swedish food production.

Lantmännen, together with its members – 18 000 Swedish farmers – holds a unique position in the food chain from field to fork. Lantmännen has also previously had a significant presence in the animal value chain, through input goods, machinery, and refining grain into high-quality feed.

“It is gratifying that the transaction has now been completed. This acquisition further strengthens Lantmännen’s position in the food chain, while we have also secured Swedish ownership of Scan. That is important for Swedish farming and Swedish food production – and a key issue in strengthening the national food supply preparedness,” says Magnus Kagevik, Lantmännen’s Group President and CEO.

The new name of HKScan Sweden AB will be Scan Sverige AB. The company has some 1 800 employees, production facilities in Kristianstad, Skara, Linköping and Halmstad – and is headquartered in Stockholm.

”I would like to give all Scan employees a warm welcome to Lantmännen. Together we have good opportunities for continuing to drive the development of thriving and profitable Swedish agriculture, and for increasing food production in the entire country,” says Magnus Kagevik.

The acquisition means that Lantmännen’s total net annual sales increase to slightly more than 70 billion SEK, and its number of employees increases to 12 000.

“It is with joy and optimism we note that the transaction is now complete. Through close cooperation with our suppliers, Swedish farms, and a responsiveness to consumer needs, we are well equipped for the future. Becoming part of Lantmännen also strengthens our capacity for maximizing the advantages of Swedish and locally produced meat, which in turn strengthens domestic food production,” says Lars Appelqvist, MD of Scan Sverige AB.

Since 2007, HKScan Sweden AB has been owned by the Finnish company HKScan Oyj. Lantmännen has acquired 100 percent ownership of HKScan Sweden AB, which includes the entire Swedish operation of HKScan. As part of the transaction, Lantmännen has transferred its shares in HKScan Oyj to HKScan Oyj.
